Positive Media Company have made the difficult decision to close 80s Mixtape and The Big Cheese Radio as a result of restructured music licence fees which have become increasingly difficult to cover. These costs are essential to legally operate music-based stations, but the scale of recent increases has made long-term sustainability no longer possible for us.
We have carefully explored alternative ways to keep the stations alive, including the introduction of a voluntary monthly Patreon-style subscription to maintain an ad-free listening experience. Unfortunately, even with strong community support, this model would not have been enough to offset the rising licensing and operational costs. Continuing under these conditions would place unreasonable financial strain on the organisation.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who listened, shared feedback, and supported our stations over the years. While radio as a medium has shifted and become less relevant for younger audiences, these stations were a joyful and meaningful chapter for us. We had an absolute blast while it lasted, and we thank you sincerely for being part of the journey.
